About the Seminar
Master personality disorder dynamics: This seminar uses the Double Action Regulation model to decode complex relationship motives, schemas, and tests. Gain practical tools for complementary relationship design, manipulation handling, and change.
Rainer Sachse, PhD, is Head of the Institute for Psychological Psychotherapy (IPP) in Bochum, Germany. He studied psychology from 1969 to 1978 at the Ruhr University of Bochum, Germany, and went on to gain his doctorate in psychology and a postdoctoral qualification for a full professorship, and later becoming a professor of clinical psychology and psychotherapy. At the end of the 1990s, Prof. Sachse developed a dual action theory of personality disorder which led to the creation of clarification-oriented psychotherapy, a therapy approach which he continues to use and develop today. His main areas of interest are personality disorders, psychosomatics, clarification-oriented psychotherapy, and behavioural therapy, and he has written extensively about these themes.
Foundations of
Personality Disorder Therapy
This introductory
seminar serves as the essential clinical blueprint for psychotherapists,
psychiatrists, and counsellors. It moves beyond superficial symptom checklists
to explore the Double Action Regulation model, providing a robust
psychological basis for the effective treatment of all personality disorders
(PD).
The Clinical
Challenge
Treating patients
with personality disorders often feels like navigating a minefield. Clinicians
frequently encounter individuals who possess a high motivation for
relationships but remain profoundly distrustful of their therapists due to
deeply ingrained schemas. These patients may react with extreme sensitivity,
exhibit manipulative tendencies, or perform "tests" to see if the
therapist will maintain professional boundaries and attentiveness. This course
explains the "psychological logic" behind these behaviours, ensuring
therapists no longer feel blindsided by these dynamics.
Core Curriculum
& Learning Modules
- The course is
structured to turn abstract theory into actionable clinical tools:
- Deep-Dive Theory
& Q&A (01:31:05): An intensive session that deconstructs the
functional architecture of personality disorders.
- The Schema
Framework: Detailed exploration of relationship motives, dysfunctional
schemas, and compensatory strategies that drive patient behaviour.
- Therapeutic Action
Strategies: Participants learn to derive specific interventions directly
from the model, including:
- Complementary
Relationship Design: How to shape the therapeutic alliance to meet the
patient's core needs while maintaining clinical goals.
- Tactical
Navigation: Practical methods for dealing with manipulation, tests, and
sensitive schema-triggered content.
- Process Mastery: Techniques
for building motivation for change in patients who initially appear unmotivated
or resistant.
Professional
Outcomes

Double Action Regulation model, you transition from reactive to proactive
therapy. You will gain the ability to maintain process control and foster
genuine psychological growth, even in the most challenging interpersonal
environments.
